SEOUL, Nov 26 (Reuters) – When K-Pop sensation BTS announced that their first in-person concerts since the start of the pandemic would be in the United States, Kim Ji-eun immediately booked a flight and hotel, praying that COVID rules would let her attend all four shows.
Permissive entry rules have prevailed so far in both South Korea and the United States, allowing Kim and other fully vaccinated, die-hard fans of BTS to see their idols in person for the first time since 2019, when they wrapped up their last tour from North America to Europe to Asia.
The seven-member group will hold four “Permission to Dance on Stage” concerts at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Nov.27-28 and Dec. 1-2.
“It’s a historic event,” Kim said ahead of her departure from Seoul on Thursday. “I’m just so happy and excited to meet BTS and other fans, and share our energy and hearts hoping for an end to the pandemic.”
A 40-year-old mother and YouTube content creator, Kim said she and her friend had to engage in a “nightly click war” to secure their concert tickets.
Waiting for her flight at Incheon International Airport, Kim had a bag stocked with fan staples such as BTS branded glow sticks and snacks, as well as pandemic-era necessities such as her vaccination certificate and COVID-19 self-test kit.
Since their 2013 debut, BTS has spearheaded a global K-Pop craze with catchy, upbeat music and dances, as well as lyrics and social campaigns aimed at empowering young people.
The band won the top prize of artist of the year at the American Music Awards website for the first time on Sunday, and best pop song for their summer hit “Butter,” among other awards.
As the pandemic spread last year, the band postponed website and then called off what was meant to be its biggest international tour involving nearly 40 concerts.Instead, it has held online shows.
Having the new shows in the United States – which continues to have a much larger COVID-19 outbreak than South Korea but has fewer rules on gatherings – left some fans who can’t make the international trip feeling left out.
“I was so glad to hear about the concerts, but it’s a shame for me being unable to go, especially as I had just become a fan right after the pandemic hit,” said Emily Seo, a Seoul resident who said because of her job and young baby she couldn’t risk testing positive for the virus and having to be quarantined.
Some fans have lamented on online communities that BTS didn’t opt to kick off the tour at home, while others say they are now global superstars no longer bound by commitment to local fans first and foremost.
The band’s management, Bit Hit Music, did not respond to a request for comment on its choice of concert venues, but has said the decision reflected national and regional health regulations and other conditions.
“It’s great BTS is enjoying global attention and making a big name, but I have to admit that I’m sad on the other hand because that means fewer chances for me to see them here,” Seo said.(Reporting by Hyonhee Shin and Minwoo Park; Additional reporting by Yeni Seo; Editing by Josh Smith and Raissa Kasolowsky)
Having lived with a severe wheat allergy for 30 years, occupational therapist Marcelle Williams had learned to shop with care.
So when one evening in December last year she was overcome with hunger after a long day at work on the front line, she ensured she picked up a suitable snack.
As she dashed into the branch of Marks & Spencer local to Queen’s Hospital in Romford, Essex, where she works, Marcelle, 62, selected a cinnamon swirl from the shelves displaying the retailer’s ‘Made Without’ range of products; made without major food allergens such as nuts, dairy, egg and wheat.
Having lived with a severe wheat allergy for 30 years, occupational therapist Marcelle Williams had learned to shop with care
‘I love their cinnamon swirls and often buy them,’ says Marcelle, who retired from the NHS two years ago but returned to help during the pandemic. But seconds after biting into the pastry on her bus journey home, Marcelle realised there had been a dreadful mistake.
‘My lips started to swell and my skin began itching all over,’ says the mother-of-two, who has three grandchildren.
She was going into anaphylactic shock, where the immune system floods the body with a chemical called histamine to flush out what it thinks is a large-scale invasion of the allergy trigger. This makes breathing difficult by inflaming the airway and triggering a life-threatening slump in blood pressure.
Marcelle has an EpiPen, a self-administered injection of adrenaline, which stops the potentially fatal reaction in its tracks.
‘The trouble is, when I suffer anaphylaxis, my hands and fingers swell up quickly and become like claws,’ says Marcelle.‘They get so swollen it makes injecting myself with an EpiPen impossible.’

‘Shortly after arriving at hospital, I passed out,’ says Marcelle.‘Poor Tony had to wait outside due to Covid restrictions and for the next 15 or 20 minutes he had no idea if I was dead or alive.’
Medical staff swiftly administered more adrenaline and gave her antihistamines and albuterol to open her airway.
‘When I woke up 20 minutes later, I also had a mask over my face carrying oxygen into my lungs as my oxygen levels were low,’ says Marcelle.
She was discharged later that night with an eight-day course of steroid tablets to suppress any lingering inflammation. ‘For the next couple of days, I was exhausted and drained,’ she says.
Once the shock subsided, anger set in. The next day Marcelle and Tony revisited the store to check the display and found cinnamon swirls made with wheat stacked up on the ‘Made Without’ shelves.
‘I was fuming,’ says Marcelle.‘The two products are displayed side-by-side, with no partition between the shelving units.
‘The shelf with normal cinnamon swirls was full so somebody had moved the surplus over to the “free-from” shelf.
‘This was an accident waiting to happen and when I complained to M&S, I got an apology and a £50 voucher,’ says Marcelle.‘It barely covered the cost of the bra that doctors had to cut off with a pair of scissors to save my life.’
In a statement to Good Health, M&S admitted the items were in the wrong place but insisted the cinnamon swirl pack ‘was clearly labelled as containing wheat’ and the Made Without range is in a ‘specific bold design’ to distinguish allergen-containing foods.
The company said: ‘We take allergens extremely seriously. We were sorry to hear about this customer’s experience but this was an isolated incident.’ Later this week, new legislation — called Natasha’s Law — comes into force that compels all food retailers (from the supermarket giants to family-run cafes) to ensure every item of pre-packaged food for direct sale lists every ingredient and allergen.
However, while welcome, the rules will not eradicate the errors that endangered Marcelle.
And Dr Isabel Skypala, a consultant allergy dietitian at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London, says while food retailers have improved the range of free-from products for the two million people with food allergies in the UK, mistakes are still being made.

‘This is quite a serious case of human error and if Marcelle had eaten the whole swirl, she would have been exposed to a sizeable amount of wheat,’ she says.
Dr Skypala said she has heard of other cases where allergen-containing products had not been labelled properly and purchased by those with food allergies.
‘Most of these cases involve loose or unpackaged foods and I advise my patients with severe food allergies not to buy them,’ she says.
The kind of errors that led to Marcelle fighting for her life are more common than we think.
In March, Asda came under fire after a customer spotted that the Scan & Go app for online shopping failed to highlight allergens in a number of items.
This came to light when the mother of a young boy with a severe egg allergy double-checked products she’d bought, described on the app as egg-free, only to find they did contain egg.Luckily, she noticed before her child ate them.
Another shopper with a dairy allergy claimed the app failed to list milk on certain products. Asda said it was due to a technical error and it was in the process of updating the app to display all allergy-related information.
But some campaigners feel these mistakes, however rare, are symptomatic of the food retail sector’s long-running complacency over severe food allergies.
‘Marcelle could have died and I’ve heard similar stories from other people,’ says Nadim Ednan-Laperouse, whose daughter Natasha died aged 15 on a flight from Heathrow to Nice in July 2016 after an allergic reaction to sesame in a baguette from high street chain Pret A Manger.
Nowhere on the wrapper did it say it was an ingredient. Her parents have spearheaded Natasha’s Law, which sets out that any sandwiches or other items prepared by staff must have a label listing every single ingredient and allergen. Ideally, these should be printed but can be hand-written.
Businesses must comply by the October 1 deadline or face hefty fines or even prosecution.
‘It has always been entirely down to the allergy sufferer to be extra vigilant,’ says Nadim.‘But Natasha’s Law fires the first shot across the food sector’s bows. Businesses must now comply — it’s non-negotiable’.
Research from Imperial College London shows UK hospital admissions for food allergies have tripled in 20 years, with the largest increase in children under 15.
Deaths have declined, mostly owing to a 300 per cent surge in prescriptions of life-saving devices such as EpiPens.
But the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation fears deaths are being under-reported — or wrongly attributed to other causes — and wants a national register of anaphylaxis deaths related to food.
‘That anyone should die from an allergy in the 21st century is a real tragedy,’ says Sir Stephen Holgate, a professor of Immunopharmacology and a trustee of the foundation.
Marcelle says retailers should display all allergen and free-from products metres apart.
‘Food shopping can be a life-and-death situation for a lot of people,’ she says.‘A simple measure like this isn’t too much to ask.’
What looks like just another foam mattress is actually something more unusual, thanks to a special gel grid just under the cover.

The Purple mattress is the brainchild of two brothers who wanted to rethink what a could be and feel like. They conceptualized a special, stretchy and extra-durable material, similar to what you find in Jansport backpack straps. Since then, the mattress brand has become a major player in the online mattress space.
If you’re not sure whether or not a new Purple mattress is right for you, our Purple mattress review can help you make an informed decision. Shopping for a new mattress online can be tricky, so to make it easier for you, I put the Purple mattress to the test. Here, I break down the main reasons why you should or shouldn’t purchase it, based on the perspective of your average sleeper (who just so happens to have tested literally hundreds of beds in her lifetime).

Extremely breathable because of Purple grid technology
Soft enough to relieve pain around hips and shoulders, but firm enough to support your spine
It’s suitable for every sleeper type
Don’t Like
Might feel too strange for those who want a regular foam mattress
Not quite supportive enough in the long term for people over 230 pounds
Not ideal for people on a tight budget
It was hard to believe I was sitting on a mattress, because the material and feel was something I’ve never felt before. Unless you’ve already slept on a friend’s or family member’s Purple mattress, you’ve likely never experienced something like it, either. I literally felt like I was floating on top of the comfort layers — similar to floating on your back in water. My hairdresser even said the same thing about her Purple bed when we were chit-chatting about my work as a mattress tester. Unique is a word I often see in reference to Purple, and they really weren’t joking around.
Purple mattress firmness and feel
The secret to its sauce is Purple’s Hyper-Elastic Polymer, which is what gives the bed its signature feel. What is Hyper-Elastic Polymer, you ask? It’s a squishy, stretchy, jelly-like material that’s laid out in a comfort grid design in the top layer of the bed. It definitely takes a few nights to get used to, but once you do, it’s a lovely sleeping experience.
It’s pressure-relieving and soft when I’m on my side, but my back never felt like it sagged into the mattress. So, the Purple is also perfectly supportive. Not to mention it’s extremely bouncy, which should be music to the ears of combination sleepers because it won’t cause any resistance like memory foam does. I’d rate it around a medium on the firmness scale, or a 5 out of 10 with 10 being the firmest.
You can ask for a sample of the material before you test the bed, which I suggest doing if you’re on the fence about trying it. That way, you can decide with absolute certainty if you’re up for the bed or not. But you’ll probably find that it’s durable (Purple says it can stretch up to 15 times its original state), soft and a creative idea for a bed’s comfort layer.
A peek at the Hyper-Elastic Polymer grid that gives the Purple its squishy feel.
Slumber Yard
Purple mattress construction
The Purple is about 10 inches thick and stacked three layers high. It’s technically a hybrid bed because it contains two different types of material (foam and Hyper-Elastic Polymer) but the original Purple has no coils in the base layer. If you’re looking for a coil hybrid mattress, we suggest the Purple 2 or the other top-tier Purple hybrid mattresses.
The first layer is 4 inches of dense support foam to support you and the remaining layers of the bed.
The center is made with 3.5 inches of “Comfort Poly Foam,” which is more responsive than memory foam and more breathable. It acts as a transition to separate the comfy top layer and the very dense bottom layer.
Purple’s bread and butter is its 2-inch top layer of Hyper-Elastic Polymer.
To complement the stretchy polymer material, the Purple mattress cover is also super-stretchy. Purple calls it its “SoftFlex” cover, and I think it’s more breathable and moisture-wicking than your typical cotton or Tencel cover. It isn’t machine washable though, so you’ll have to clean any stains with warm water and a bleach-free detergent.
Here you can see the three layers of foam. There’s a layer of foam around the perimeter that holds in the gel grid.
Slumber Yard
Motion isolation
Unless your partner is a serious tosser-turner, you really won’t be able to notice much movement on this mattress. The Hyper-Elastic Polymer material is really bouncy, but it’s also great at absorbing motion. If good motion isolation is an important feature for you, it checks out on the Purple mattress.
Edge support
Two years ago this would have been a different answer, but Purple addressed complaints about edge support by adding dense foam around the bed’s sides. Now, the edges on the Purple mattress are much more supportive if you or your partner sleep on the extreme left or right side.
Temperature
This is where the Purple mattress really stands out. Its grid design allows for a ton of airflow through the little air pockets, way more so than your typical memory foam, poly foam, or even latex foam bed. It doesn’t have any advanced cooling technology within the layers, but the Purple Grid itself is an extremely breathable material by design. I’d even go as far as saying it’s one of the for temperature regulation.
Who is the Purple mattress best for?
Your body weight and the position you sleep in should help you decide on your best suited mattress option. It’s like the kind gas you put into your car; they’ll all technically get the job done, but the type that accommodates you most will be more beneficial in the long run.
Sleeping position
It primarily comes down to back, side, stomach sleeper and combination sleeper, unless you’re doing some Cirque du Soleil in your sleep. Considering the Purple falls around a medium, or 5 on the scale, I think it’s suitable for all . It’s firm enough for a back or stomach sleeper, but also perfectly pressure-relieving for most side sleepers.
My only caveat would be lightweight side sleepers under 145 pounds. In that case, I suggest a more plush mattress like a Layla, because it offers more pressure relief around your hips and shoulders.
Body type
Someone who’s 95 pounds will perceive a mattress differently than a 200-pound individual. In general, the more you weigh, the softer a mattress is going to feel. For lightweight sleepers, the effect is opposite. I also think beds without coils are best for people under 230 pounds, because they aren’t quite as supportive or durable.
With that being said, I recommend the original Purple mattress to lightweight to moderately sized individuals. If you weigh over 230 pounds and really want to buy a Purple, they offer three different hybrid mattresses that’ll give you your money’s worth.
Price
The original Purple mattress isn’t unreasonably priced, but it’s also not priced like your typical Amazon mattress. Retail prices start at $599 for a twin, and go up to $1,598 for a split . It honestly depends on your budget and how much you’re willing to spend on a new bed. Keep an eye out for promotions, however, so you can get the Purple at an even lower price. It doesn’t happen too often, except around big holidays or flash sales (like the one they did for daylight savings time).
Shipping, trial and warranty
The Purple Mattress comes rolled up in a shipping bag.
Mattress Firm/Purple
Even if you’re an avid online shopper, it’s difficult to purchase over the internet when you’re unconfident about a brand’s policies. Especially when it comes to returns.
The Purple ships for free in a cardboard box directly to your front door. All you have to do is open it up, remove the plastic wrap, unroll, and voila — you have yourself a new bed. There will be an off-gassing smell right when you take it out of the box, but I wouldn’t say it’s a deal-breaker since it disappears after a few days.
They offer a 100-night trial, giving you more than three months to figure out if you like the bed or not. You should give yourself at least 30 days, though, to give your body a chance to get used to the feel.
Purple offers a 10-year warranty for its original Purple mattress, which is pretty much the standard for online beds.
Who will and won’t like Purple?
To conclude our Purple mattress review, I’m going to lay everything out and help you decide if the Purple bed is the perfect mattress for you.
You might like the Purple mattress if:
You get hot while you sleep. The Purple bed’s design offers a massive amount of breathability and should help you sleep cooler and more comfortably.
You want a very bouncy, responsive bed.
You sleep on your side, back or stomach. It works for all sleeping positions, unless you weigh under 145 pounds and strictly sleep on your side.
You love Purple’s commercials and are open to being adventurous with your new bed.
You might not like the Purple mattress if:
You’re in the market for a standard, run-of-the-mill foam mattress.
You can’t spend over $1,000 on a queen or king bed.
You have a larger body type. Purple offers three hybrid mattresses that will offer more durability, comfort, and support in the long run.
You’re looking for an extraplush or an extrafirm bed. Purple lands right in between firm and soft.

LEIGH, England, Sept 26 (Reuters) – Forward Sam Kerr netted a brace and Fran Kirby scored her 50th Women’s Super League (WSL) goal as champions Chelsea swept aside a sorry Manchester United 6-1 on Sunday and Arsenal thrashed Manchester City 5-0 to go top of the league.
Goals from Vivianne Miedema, Katie McCabe, Leah Williamson and a Kim Little brace put the Gunners top with a maximum nine points from three games, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur on goal difference.
Chelsea got the day off to a flying start when Kerr made the most of some shoddy defending from United in the second minute to play in Kirby who tapped in from close range.Pernille Harder doubled their advantage with a fine solo run and dink in the 24th minute.
The visitors piled more misery on United four minutes before the interval as Kerr and Kirby reversed roles for the Australian international to stab home a third.
United improved after the break and pulled one back through substitute Alessia Russo in the 48th minute but Chelsea restored their three-goal lead almost immediately when Kerr drove home a cross from the right.Replays, however, suggested the 28-year-old may have been lucky not to be flagged for https://tranhmaihuong.com/tranh-go-cuu-hac-du-xuan-duc-dep/ offside.
Substitutes Drew Pence and Jessie Fleming grabbed a goal each before fulltime, leaving both sides on six points from their opening three games.
In Sunday’s later kickoffs, Tottenham’s Jessica Naz got the only goal of the game in the 85th minute to secure a 1-0 win over Reading that briefly lifted Spurs to the top of the standings before Arsenal’s demolition of City.
Emily Gielnik scored just after halftime as Aston Villa beat Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 and West Ham thrashed newcomers Leicester City 4-0.

LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Britain said it would seize control of Go-Ahead Group’s Southeastern rail contract after the transport company admitted financial errors and repaid 25 million pounds ($34 million) to the government, the latest failure of the UK’s franchise system.
Go-Ahead postponed its annual results that were due on Thursday, announced the immediate departure of its finance director, Elodie Brian, and apologised for its conduct on the London & South Eastern Railway contract (LSER).
The Department for Transport (DfT) said the government’s operator of last resort would take over the running of the service from Oct.17, criticising the company for its conduct and threatening further action, including fines.
The scandal is the latest in a long line of problems with Britain’s franchising model that was used to run the railways after privatisation in the mid-1990s.This year, it announced a shake-up of the system after multiple failures.
The DfT said it was undertaking further investigations into the LSER contract.
“There is clear, compelling and serious evidence that LSER have breached the trust that is absolutely fundamental to the success of our railways,” Transport Minister Grant Shapps said in a statement on Tuesday.
Go-Ahead said its financial results for the 12 months to July, including the expected provisions related to the franchise but excluding any further financial penalties, remained in line with its expectations. No date has been set for their release.
Liberum analyst Gerald Khoo said that Go-Ahead’s bus operations accounted for the bulk of its value.
“However, there is an unquantified one-off financial penalty exposure (likely to be manageable), and a probable negative impact on the group´s ability to win future rail contracts, both in the UK and overseas,” he said.
LSER connects London with busy commuter areas in Kent and East Sussex in southeast England and is run by Govia, a joint venture majority owned by Go-Ahead alongside France-based partner Keolis. The pair continue to run their other rail contract, Thameslink.
Public transport companies have been hit financially as fewer people travelled during coronavirus lockdowns, and analysts have recently argued in favour of consolidation. Go-Ahead’s UK competitors FirstGroup and Stagecoach are in merger talks.
Go-Ahead Chairman Clare Hollingsworth said the group was working with DfT towards a settlement of the matter. The company named Gordon Boyd as interim chief financial officer. Current Chief Executive David Brown is due to retire in November and be replaced by Christian Schreyer. ($1 = 0.7311 pounds) (Reporting by Kate Holton; editing by Sarah Young, Robert Birsel)
